Pradosh Vrat is very famous among Lord Shiva devotees. Pradosh Tithi falls on 13th tithi of both Shukla and Krishna Paksh. It is also known as Trayodashi tithi. Trayodashi tithi which falls on Saturday is known as Shani Pradosh. This vrat gives progeny and helps to balance the job and work.
This time Shani Pradosh is coming on 1st July 2023, Saturday.
Trayodashi Tithi starts from 01:16 AM on July 1, 2023 to 11:07 PM on July 2. 2023

Sunset Time 07:23 PM
Pradosh Kaal (evening puja) starts from 06:38 AM on 1 July 2023.
The most important time of worship of Pradosh Vrat Puja is pradosh time i.e evening time. Pradosh time starts before 45 minutes of sunset.
In Shani Pradosh devotees worship Shani dev also with Lord Shiva.
In evening puja Shani dev is worshipped in temple.
Peepal puja is also said to be beneficial in Shani Pradosh Vrat.
Shani Chalisa and Shani Stotra is also recited with Shiv chalisa and Rudrashtakam.
Importance of Shani Pradosh Vrat is:
- This fast is considered best for getting children.
- The person who performs this fast with a true heart and worships Lord Shiva, all the problems goes away from his life.
- Lord Shiva and Shani Dev blesses the devotees with good health and health related problems get solved.
- This vrat brings balance in work and job.
- This vrat helps to fulfill our wishes and desires.
Shani Pradosh Vrat Puja Vidhi:
- Wake up in the morning and take bath.
- Clean the puja place and do puja of Lord Shiva and light up a diya. Read Shiv Chalisa and Rudrashtaksm.
- Chant "Om Namah Shivay" on rudraksh mala.
- Chant "Mahamrityunjay Mantra".
- If possible then do Vrat.
- Do abhisheka with ganga jal, water and milk.
- Abir, Chandan, Akshat, Kapur, Flower, Belpatra, Dhatura, Seasonal fruits, Paan, Supari, Laung, Ilaichi are important things for Pradosh Puja.
- Do panchopachar puja of Lord Shiva, Ganesha, Mata Parvati and Nandi.
- Then read shiva chalisa, chant mantras like “Om namah Shivay”, “Mahamritunjay Mantra” and “Rudrashtakam”.
- Do Arati.
- Puja at Pradosh Time i.e sunset time is very important.
- Pradosh Time starts before 45 minutes of Sunset.
- If possible go to Shiv Mandir, do abhishek and light up a Mustard oil / Til oil diya under Peepal tree and a diya in Shani temple.
- Read Shani Stotra, Dashrath Krit Stotra, Shani Chalisa and chant beej mantra of Shani dev.
- Do arati of Lord Shiva and Shani Dev.
Shani Pradosh Vrat Katha
There was a nagar seth in ancient times. Sethji's house had all kinds of comforts, but Seth and Sethani were always unhappy because they have no children. After much thought, Sethji entrusted his work to the servants and set out on a pilgrimage with his wife. On leaving his town, he found a monk who was sitting in meditation. Sethji thought, why not take blessings from the monk and travel further. Seth and Sethani sat near the monk. When the monk opened his eyes, he came to know that Seth and Sethani had been waiting for a child from a long time.
The monk said to Seth and his wife that I know the reason of your sorrow. You observe Shani Pradosh Vrat, this will give you child happiness. The monk also explained the method of Pradosh Vrat to them.
Both proceeded for the pilgrimage with the blessings of the monk. After returning from the pilgrimage, Seth and Sethani together performed Shani Pradosh Vrat, due to which a beautiful son was born in their house and their life was filled with happiness.
