Purnamasi Vrat Katha (Puranmasi Vrat Katha)

Once upon a time in the Dwapar yuga, Yashoda ji said to Krishna – O Krishna! You are the creator, sustainer and destroyer of the whole world, tell me today a fast by which women in the land of death do not fear becoming widows and this fast will fulfill the wishes of all human beings. Shri Krishna said, "O Mother! You have asked a very beautiful question. I tell you to observe such a fast. To get good luck, women should fast for thirty-two full moons. By doing this fast, women get good luck and wealth. This fast is going to give unshakable good luck and increase the devotion of human beings towards Lord Shiva. Yashoda ji started saying – O Krishna! First of all, tell me in detail about who did this fast in the land of death.

Shri Krishna ji started saying that on this earth there was a city named 'Katika' full of many types of gems raised by a very famous king Chandrahas. There was a Brahmin named Dhaneshwar and his wife was very Sushila Rupvati. Both lived in that city with great love. There was no shortage of money in the house. He had a great sorrow that he had no children, he was very sad about this sorrow. Once upon a time, a great ascetic yogi came to that city. That yogi used to bring alms from all the houses except that Brahmin's house and eat food. He did not take alms from Roopvati. One day, the yogi did not take alms from Rupvati and took alms from another house and went to the banks of the Ganges, and was eating the beggars lovingly, that Dhaneshwar somehow saw all this work of the yogi.

Saddened by the disrespect of his alms, Dhaneshwar said to Yogi – Mahatma! You all take alms from homes but never take alms from my house, what is the reason for this? Yogi said that begging for a childless house is equal to the food of the impure and the one who eats the food of the impure also becomes impure. Since you are childless, I do not beg in your house for fear of falling. Dhaneshwar was very sad to hear this and fell at yogi's feet with folded hands and started saying with gratitude – O Maharaj! If so, tell me how to get a son. You are omniscient, please have this grace on me. There is no shortage of money in my house, but I am very sad for not having a son. You take away this sorrow of mine, you are powerful. Hearing this, the yogi started saying – O Brahmin! You worship Chandi. When he came home, he told his wife everything and went to the forest for penance. He went to the forest and worshiped Chandi and fasted. On the sixteenth day, Chandi appeared to him in a dream and said - O Dhaneshwar! He will be your son, but he will die at the age of sixteen. If both of you, men and women, observe a fast for thirty-two full moons, it will lead to a long life. Worship Shiva by making flour lamps as much as you can, but you should go to Poornimasi for thirty-two years. In the morning, you will see a mango tree near this place, you should climb on it and pluck a fruit and go home soon, tell your wife everything. After the seasonal bath, she will become clean, meditate on Shri Shankar ji and eat that fruit. Then by the grace of Lord Shankar, she will become pregnant.

When the Brahmin woke up in the morning, he saw a mango tree near the place on which a very beautiful mango fruit was planted. The Brahmin tried to climb the mango tree and break the fruit, but despite several attempts on the tree, he could not climb. Then the Brahmin was very worried and started worshiping Shri Ganesh ji, the destroyer of obstacles– O Dayanidhe! Whoever destroys the obstacles of his devotees and performs their good work, destroys the wicked, who gives prosperity and achievement, please give me so much strength that I can fulfill my desire. Thus, on praying to Ganesha, by his grace, Dhaneshwar climbed the tree and saw the fruit of a very beautiful mango. He thought that the gift that had borne fruit was this, and no fruit was visible, the Dhaneshwar Brahmin quickly plucked the fruit and brought it to his wife and his wife ate the fruit according to her husband's words and she became pregnant. By the infinite grace of Devi ji, she had a very beautiful son, whom she named Devidas. With the joy and sorrow of his parents, the child started growing in his father's house like the moon of Shukla Paksha. By the grace of Bhavani, the child became very beautiful, gentle and very proficient in reading knowledge. According to Durga ji's command, her mother had started fasting for thirty-two full moons, so that her son would become older.

At the age of sixteen, Devidas's parents became very worried that their son might die this year. So they thought in their minds that if this accident happened in front of them, how would they be able to bear it? So he called Devidas's maternal uncle and said that we wish that Devidas should go to Kashi for a year and study and he should not be left alone. So go away together and bring it back after a year. After making all the arrangements, his parents made Devidas sit on a horse to go to Kashi and made his maternal uncle with him, but did not say this to his maternal uncle or anyone else. Dhaneshwar started worshiping Goddess Durga and fasting for the good health and longevity of his son. In this way, he completed the fast of 32 full moons.

After some time, one day both of them – Mama and Bhanja – were staying in a village to spend the night on the road, on that day a very beautiful, Sushila, Vidushi and virtuous daughter of a Brahmin was going to be married in that village. Devidas and his maternal uncle were also staying in the same dharamshala where the groom and his marriage procession were staying. Coincidentally, the work of mandap etc. was done by offering oil etc. to the girl, then at the time of marriage, the groom became a bow. The groom's father, in consultation with his family members, decided that this Devidas is as beautiful as my son, I should get married to him and later other functions of marriage will be done with my son. Thinking this, Devidas's maternal uncle went and said that you should give your nephew to us for a while, so that all the work of marriage can be done smoothly. Then his maternal uncle started saying that whatever madhuparka adi kanyadaan gets to the groom, if all that is given to us at the time of kanyadan, then my nephew will become the groom of this marriage. When the groom's father accepted this, he sent his nephew to become the groom and all the marriage with him was completed in the night. He could not eat with his wife and started thinking in his mind that he would not know if it would be a woman. In solitude, he began to let out hot breaths in this thought and tears also came to his eyes. Then the bride asked what is the matter? Why are you getting so sad and sad? Then he told him all the things that had happened between the groom's father and his maternal uncle. Then the girl started saying that how can this be the opposite of Brahma marriage. In front of Dev, Brahmin and Agni, I have made you my husband, so you are my husband. I will always be your wife, never anyone else's. Then Devidas said – Do not do this because I am very young, think carefully about what will be your speed after me. But she was strong-minded, saying that whatever your speed is, that will be my speed. Oh My Lord! You get up and eat, you will surely be hungry.

After this, both Devidas and his wife ate food and slept the rest of the night. In the morning, Devidas gave his wife a ring studded with three pieces, a handkerchief and said - O darling! Take it and understand the signs and become stable. Make a wreath garden to know my death and life. Plant a new flower with fragrance in it, irrigate it with water every day and play with joy and celebrate, the time and the day I die, these flowers will dry up and when they turn green again, know that I am alive. There is no doubt that you should understand this with certainty. Explaining this, he went away. As soon as the morning came, there was a loud noise and when the groom and all came to the Barati Mandap to finish the marriage work, the girl saw the groom well and told her father that this is not my husband. My husband is the one with whom I had a water eclipse at night. I am not married to him. If this is the case, then tell me what I gave it, show me the ornaments I had given at the time of Madhuparka and Kanyadaan, and tell me all the secret things I had said at night. The father called the groom according to his statement. Hearing all these things of the girl, he started saying that I do not know anything. After this, he went away with his own mouth and the whole procession was also humiliated and returned from there.

Lord Krishna said – O Mother! Thus Devidas went to Kashi to study. When some time passed, inspired by time, a snake came there to bite him at night. Due to the effect of that poison, the place of his bed became poisonous with the flame of poison from all sides. But due to the influence of the fasting king, he could not cut it because his mother had already fasted for thirty-two full moons. After this, at midday, Kaal himself came there and tried to remove his life from his body, due to which he fell unconscious on the earth. By the grace of God, At the same time, Shri Shankar ji came there with Parvati ji. Seeing him in a foolish state, Parvati ji prayed to Lord Shankar, "O Maharaj! The mother of this child had earlier fasted on thirty-two full moons, due to which O Lord! You give your life to him. At the behest of Bhavani, the devotee-vatsal Lord Shri Shiva ji donated his life to him. Due to the effect of this fast, Kaal also had to retreat and Devidas sat down healthy.

On the other hand, his wife waited for his time, when he saw that there were no letters and flowers in that flower garden, he was very surprised and when it became green, he knew that he was alive. Seeing this, she started saying to her father with a very happy heart, "Father! My husband is alive, you find him. When the sixteenth year passed, Devidas also left Kashi with his maternal uncle. Here, her father-in-law was about to leave his house to find him when both of them came there, seeing him coming, his father-in-law brought him to his house with great pleasure. At that time the residents of the city also gathered there and everyone decided that this girl must have been married to this child. When the girl saw the child, she recognized him and said that this is the one who had indicated. Then everyone started saying that it was good that it came and all the city dwellers rejoiced.

A few days later, Devidas, along with his wife and maternal uncle, left for his home with a lot of gifts from his father-in-law's house. When he came near his village, many people saw him and informed his parents in advance that your son Devidas was coming with his wife and maternal uncle. At first, he could not believe such news, but when other people came and supported his point, he was very surprised, but after a while Devidas came and bowed his head at the feet of his parents and his wife touched the feet of her in-laws. Let's go. In the joy of the arrival of his son and daughter-in-law, Dhaneshwar made a huge celebration and also pleased the Brahmins by giving many donations.

Shri Krishna ji started saying that in this way Dhaneshwar became a son due to the effect of fasting on thirty-two full moons. All the women who observe this fast do not suffer the pain of legality in their birth and death and are always fortunate, this is my word, there is no doubt about it. This fast is going to give to sons and grandsons and fulfill all the wishes. By fasting on thirty-two full moons, all the wishes of the devotee are fulfilled by the grace of Lord Shiva.
