Pradosh that falls on Friday is known as Shukra Pradosh Vrat. Pradosh Vrat is considered very auspicious in Hindu dharma specially when Saawan month’s Pradosh Vrats. Pradosh Vrat is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Those who offer puja on this day they get blessing from Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati. Every month on Trayodashi tithi, devotee observe Pradosh Vrat.

Shukra Pradosh has it’s own significance. It brings prosperity and happiness.

Pradosh Vrat Puja Vidhi

• Wake up early in the morning and take bath. Wear white or pink colour cloth.
• Take sankalp to observe the fast. (Those who want to do the vrat)
• Then do panchopachar puja of Lord Shiva with white Chandan, flower, belpatra, bel, dhatura, white sweets, panchamrit, dhoop, deep, janeu, gangajal, akshat, supari, lawang, ilaichi, shringaar items for Parvati Ji etc. (If possible do abhishek of shivling at home).
• Read the vrat katha.
• Recite Shiv Chalisa, Rudrashtakam, Shivashtakam etc.
• Chant “Om Namah Shivay” 108 times.
• Do arati.
• Go to Shiv Temple near by and do abhishek with jal, Ganga jal, rose water, raw milk, black til. Offer white chandan, belpatra, akshat, flower, dhatura, bel etc to shivling. Light a ghee deep there. Offer sugandhit dhoop.
• Keep fast. Many people only take water. But some people also take fruits.
• In evening again do panchopachar puja with Chandan, belpatra, flower, akshat, dhoop, deep etc and offer rice kheer to Lord Shiva.
• Offer Jau Sattu mixed with ghee and sugar to Lord Shiva.
• Light eight ghee or oil lamps in eight directions.
• Chant “Om Namah Shivay” 108 times.
• Do arati.

Shukra Pradosh K Upaay

• For happiness and bliss in married life: Offer curd with honey to Lord Shiva.
• For increasing finances: Donate 1.25 kg rice and milk in Shiv Mandir on Shukra Pradosh Day. This will make new ways of earning money and finances will increase. Rice should not be broken.
• For Good Health: Offer one unbroken coconot to Lord Shiva in Shiv Temple on the evening of Pradosh Tithi.
• For increasing business: Make rangoli of five different colours in Shiv Temple and light a ghee deep between the rangoli on Pradosh Tithi.
• For Getting Rid of Enemies: Chant 5 mala of “Om Namah Shivaay” in the evening of Shukra Pradosh Tithi during Pradosh Kaal. Then offer Shami patra on shivling. This will make to get rid of enemy.
• For Getting rid of Court Problems: On Pradosh Tithi do abhishek of Shivling with Ganga Jal and offer 21 Belpatra to Shivling. All difficulties will get solved.
• For getting rid of Debt: Do abhishek of Shivling with Honey and chant one mala of “Om Rinmukteshwaraaye Namah” on Pradosh Tithi. Finances will get stable and person will get rid of debt.
• For those who are getting late for Marriage: On Shukra Pradosh Tithi chant one mala of “Om Gaurishankaraay Namah” with red chandan mala. Offer red colour flower to Lord Shiva. The person will get married soon.

Importance of Shukra Pradosh:

• Those who observe Shukra Pradosh get the blessing of Progeny.
• Those who observe this vrat get rid of past sins, difficulty and hurdles coming in life, diseases, grah dosh etc.
• It enhances luck.
• Pradosh Time on the day of Pradosh Vrat is very significant. All puja offerings and prayers are accepted and successful if done at this time. (Pradosh time starts 45 minutes before sunset).
• Marriage related problems get solved.
• Finance increases.
• Shukra grah get strong in birth chart and start to give positive results.

What Not to do On Shukra Pradosh Day:

• Don’t wear black colour clothes.
• Don’t use Tulsi patra in Shiv puja.
• Offer whole coconut instead of broken coconut. Never offer coconut water to Shivling.
• Don’t offer sindur to Lord Shiva.

Shukra Pradosh Vrat Katha:

प्राचीनकाल की बात है , एक नगर में तीन मित्र रहते थे एक राजकुमार , दूसरा ब्राह्मण कुमार और तीसरा धनिक पुत्र । राजकुमार व ब्राह्मण कुमार का विवाह हो चुका था । धनिक पुत्र का भी विवाह हो गया था , किन्तु गौना शेष था । एक दिन तीनों मित्र स्त्रियों की चर्चा कर रहे थे । ब्राह्मण कुमार ने स्त्रियों की प्रशंसा करते हुए कहा- ‘ नारीहीन घर भूतों का डेरा होता है ’ धनिक पुत्र ने यह सुना तो तुरन्त ही अपनी पत्नी को लाने का निश्चय किया ।

माता – पिता ने उसे समझाया कि अभी शुक्र देवता डूबे हुए हैं । ऐसे में बहू – बेटियों को उनके घर से विदा करवा लाना शुभ नहीं होता । किन्तु धनिक पुत्र नहीं माना और ससुराल जा पहुंचा । ससुराल में भी उसे रोकने की बहुत कोशिश की गई , मगर उसने जिद नहीं छोड़ी । माता – पिता को विवश होकर अपनी कन्या की विदाई करनी पड़ी ।

ससुराल से विदा हो पति – पत्नी नगर से बाहर निकले ही थे कि उनकी बैलगाड़ी का पहिया अलग हो गया और एक बैल की टांग टूट गई दोनों को काफी चोटें आईं फिर भी आगे बढ़ते रहे । कुछ दूर जाने पर उनकी भेंट डाकुओं से हो गई । डाकू धन – धान्य लूट ले गए । दोनों रोते – पीटते घर पहुंचे । वहां धनिक पुत्र को सांप ने डस लिया । उसके पिता ने वैद्य को बुलवाया । वैद्य ने निरीक्षण के बाद घोषणा की कि धनिक पुत्र तीन दिन में मर जाएगा ।

जब ब्राह्मण कुमार को यह समाचार मिला तो वह तुरन्त आया । उसने माता – पिता को शुक्र प्रदोष व्रत करने का परामर्ष दिया और कहा- ‘ इसे पत्नी सहित वापस ससुराल भेज दें यह सारी बाधाएं इसलिए आई हैं क्योंकि आपका पुत्र शुक्रास्त में पत्नी को विदा करा लाया है । यदि यह वहां पहुंच जाएगा तो बच जाएगा । ‘ धनिक को ब्राह्मण कुमार की बात ठीक लगी । उसने वैसा ही किया । ससुराल पहुंचते ही धनिक कुमार की हालत ठीक होती चली गई । शुक्र प्रदोष के माहात्म्य से सभी घोर कष्ट टल गए ।
