Importance of Vinayak Chaturthi Puja and Fast/Vrat:

Vinayak Chaturthi is a Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Ganesha. It falls on fourth tithi of Shukla Paksh every month. People observe fast on this day. It is believed that Ganesha removes all obstacles and grant happiness and prosperity to devotees.

Those who want to observe fast, they observe the fast on this day. Lord Ganesha bless the native with happiness, prosperity, knowledge and wisdom. This puja and vrat removes all negative effects of budh, rahu and ketu. Those who have difficult time and are unsuccessful should observe this fast and take blessings from Lord Ganapati. Ganapati removes all the obstacles and grant success in their life.

Vinayak Chaturthi Puja Vidhi:

  • Wake up in the bramha muhurta and take bath.
  • Give bath to Lord Ganesha with Panchamrit, rose water, gangajal and pure water in shubh muhurta.
  • Offer dhup and diya.
  • Then offer him sindoor, durva, nariyal, modak, laddo, kumkum, haldi etc.
  • Do mantra jaap of Ganapati mantra 108 times. 
  • Listen / read vrat katha of Vinayak Chaturthi.
  • Then do aarti of Ganapati.

Ganapati Mantra:
  • Ganapati beej mantra: "Gam"  
  • Ganapati mantra: "Om Gang Ganapatye Namah"
  • Ganapati mantra for success 
"Vakratunda Mahakaya Suryakoti Samaprabha
Nirvighnam Kurume Dev Sarwa Karyeshu Sarwada"
  • Ganesh Gayatri Mantra:
"Om Ekdantaya Viddhamahe, 
Vakratundaya Dhimahi,
Tanno Danti Prachodayat"

Q. Why we should not see moon on chaturthi tithi?

a.  As the legend goes, it is said that god Chandra (moon), who  was very handsome and took huge pride in his looks, once    mocked Lord Ganesha for his appearance by making              sarcastic remarks about his big belly and elephant head.Lord Ganesha had had enough and decided to teach Chandra a lesson. Lord Ganesha cursed Chandra saying that no one shall ever look at his beauty again and whoever looked at the moon, will have to face false allegations and invite a bad reputation.

So those who see moon on chaturthi then they have to face false allegations.

a. Durva grass is must offered to Lord Ganapati.
